Blog Challenge: Day 7
Day 7:
Five pet peeves
Sometimes I get really annoyed by little things that keep happening or just super annoyed in general by anything. I will admit that I am uptight at times but it will be because of one of these five things:
1.) When people leave less than a serving in a food or juice container. You couldn't finish it or throw the rest of it away? It's ok, I like doing this for you!
2.) Country music. I hate it and when I hear it literally ruins my day. Unless it's Garth Brooks, I freaking love Garth Brooks.
3.) People who pull out right in front of me and then turn exactly 1/4 of a mile with no one behind me. I hate you, die.
4.) Being late. Either people being late or making me late. Boo.
5.) People who try to one up your story. That did not happen, stop, you're lying and everyone knows it. AND interrupt your story to tell their garbage....
And just to add because this also irritates me, people who swear in front of children. I. Hate. That! Stop being a shitty role model for your child.
Blog Challenge: Day five
I apologize for not posting yesterday. I skipped it because the topic was depressing and it was my birthday so yeah...
My birthday was a great success. I went to the German bar in Albany and drank The Boot (with some help from a few people or I would have died) with some of my friends. Also one of the girls I work with made me a nutella cake which was amazing!
Look for day six later on when I have a moment!

Blog challenge:Day 3
Day 3:
A book I love
While I posted about my favorite book last week there are still others that I love.
One that sticks out more than others is the Five people you meet in Heaven by Mich Albom. I had to read it before freshman orientation.
If I can remember correctly it is about this guy who dies and he meets five various people who have all been affected by this person in one way or another whether he knows them or not.
I love this book because it made me think about how we are all connected and that every action whether good or bad has a consequence or result that not only affects us but many others.
I really loved this book and if you have not read it, you should. It is a quick and meaningful read.

Blog challenge: day 2
Day 2:
Where you'd like to be in ten years.
This is a hard one only because there are a zillion places I'd like to be. Ten years from now I will be 37! Job wise, I'd like to be working at a university or archive. Possibly working on a second masters in history. Maybe even getting paid to plan weddings on the side.
Hopefully, I will have seen more of the world. Maybe other places besides Germany, perhaps that will happen while I am living there.
I don't know if I will be married with children but honestly, I don't care if I have either. As far as I'm concerned if I'm happy the way I am now, I don't want them. I don't see a husband and children being a necessity in what I hope to be a very fulfilling life.
A how to: freezing avocados
As I have mentioned before, I absolutely love avocados. Having avocados around are nice because not only are they delicious in lots of dishes, they are super nutritious (as most of us know). Freezing them is a wonderful way of preserving them especially if you have a lot after a sale.
At work a couple of weeks ago, we froze them for the first time. I use avocados a lot there and I find that by the time I need to use them, most of them have gone bad (our shopping day is Wednesday) by the time I need them later in the week. So, I found an article on how to freeze them. However, I had some issues.
First, cut the avocados length wise and remove the pit.
Just to be safe, brush lemon juice over them to keep them from turning brown, I used lemon juice from a bottle.
Put them in a large zip lock bag, press out all the air and throw in the freezer.
The issue I had was the defrosting part. The day before I needed them I took them from the freezer and put them in the refrigerator. DO NOT DO THIS! About two whole avocados came out almost black. It was gross.
Luckily, I had replacements! I took another bag out of the freezer and let those defrost at room temperature. Again to be safe, I brushed them with lemon juice as they defrosted. It is important to know that the juice does not change the flavor.
Once they thawed, they looked and tasted the same, delicious!
Good luck!

Book Recommendation!!
I just finished Flight from Berlin by David John and it is hands down the single greatest book I ever read. Since I am sure that I could do the plot no justice below is the book description:
August 1936: The eyes of the world are on Berlin, where Adolf Hitler is using the Olympic Games to showcase his powerful new regime. Cynical British journalist Richard Denham knows that the carefully staged spectacle masks the Nazis’ ruthless brutality, and he’s determined to report the truth.
Sparks fly when the seasoned newspaperman meets the beautiful and rebellious American socialite Eleanor Emerson. A superb athlete whose brash behavior got her expelled from the U.S. Olympic swim team, Eleanor is now covering the games as a celebrity columnist for newspapers in the States. While Berlin welcomes the world, the Nazi capital becomes a terrifying place for Richard and Eleanor. Their chance encounter at a reception thrown by propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels leads them into the center of a treacherous game involving the Gestapo and the British Secret Intelligence Service. At stake: a mysterious dossier that threatens to destroy the leadership of the Third Reich.
Drawn together by danger and passion, surrounded by enemies, Richard and Eleanor must pull off a daring plan to survive. But one wrong move could be their last.
Set in America and Europe, David John’s Flight from Berlin is a masterful blend of fact and fiction, drama and suspense. A riveting story of love, courage, and betrayal that culminates in a breathtaking race against the forces of evil, it will keep you spellbound until its thrilling end.
Amazing page turner.
Do your self a favor and go read it and you are welcome in advance!!

CRAFTS!
The other day I went on a little crafting binge and by crafting I mean I put glitter on whatever I could.
I freakin love glitter!
I apologize if the pictures are out of order but I did the back of my black pumps and added a little something to my phone case. I also put blue glitter on a wooden 'M' for my best friends bridal shower. I don't have a picture of that : (
Anyways...

Ariel's guide to Happiness
1.) Do shit that makes you happy like hobbies. Make time for them!
2.) Listen to good music. The more uplifting and positive the better or anything that makes you happy.
3.) Read books
4.) Have a positive attitutde...Not a single person in the world likes a Debbie Downer
5.) Everyday is a new day...treat it that way!
6.) Get rid of the people who bring you down. Why are you friends with them in the first place?
7.) Do not worry about things you can't control. It is seriously the biggest waste of time, like ever.
8.) Dance like a damn fool
9.) Smile. If you smile, everyone else will start smiling too unless they are an asshole.
10.) Be grateful for everyday. Sometimes I forget this but I think "I'm alive...that's pretty awesome".
It's basically all about your attitude. Change it if it sucks and I promise you will be a happy person and people like happy people.

The Out List
Today I got home from working an overnight and I didn't feel like going to bed right away so I turned on HBO and they had a documentary on called "The Out List".
Amazing.
It had mostly celebrities, politicians and even some athletes talking about their lives being gay and marriage equality.
This documentary made me do and feel a lot of different things. In one hour I laughed, was deeply inspired and then I got very angry. Then I just cried
and cried
and cried.
I cried mainly because I was inspired by their stories of acceptance and love and overcoming obstacles.
Then I cried of the injustices they are still being subjected too. While we, as a society, are making leaps and bounds for equality we need to keep going so people who are in love have the same rights across the board. We are not finished!
I highly suggest you watch it whether you are straight, gay, lesbian, bi, transgender, purple, yellow, polka dot, whatever. Be inspired to make a difference so all of our brother's and sisters have the same rights as we do!

Revelation
I have been home about three days and in that time, I have already started looking at jobs and apartments in Berlin.
Typical.
I miss it already that I can't wait to get back.
The problem: A Visa, a job and a decent mastery of the German language.
The solution: get a visa, find a job and get my ass moving and really learn German.
These things won't happen overnight. They will take time and money but it's what I want so I have to make it happen.
Never settle.

Last day : (
Our last day is finally here, we couldn't be sadder and the weather is reflecting that. It has been raining all day long...
But, I can say that I am completely satisfied with this trip. Allison was the best travel buddy ever. Not a single argument, tiff, disagreement, etc between us. She is so rad.
And I leave Germany with a smile and an Auf Wiedersehen (until we meet again) and some Phil Collins:

Southside Music Festival
Since we left the castles, we traveled back to Nürnberg to see the Nazi Rally Grounds that we didn't catch last time then hopped a train to Stuttgart so we could pick up our rental car to head to Southside for the weekend.
What an amazing weekend! For starters, they actually gave us a Mercedes-Benz although it wasn't the convertible we were still quite happy with it as well as paranoid. Driving through the German country side was fantastic. So pretty and we passed lots of castles!
Our hostel was about 30 mins from the festival which was easy-peasy!
The first day we saw Jimmy Eat world, Two door cinema club, and Queens of the Stone Age. Killer!
Leaving was quite the adventure. We had to travel through all the campgrounds back to a pitch black parking lot. Needless to say it took us a half hour to find it, in the rain, of course.
Saturday morning it poured until we got up to head back. We made it in time to have the best hamburgers probably ever and catch Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' thirty minute set which was way to short. They played "same love" and I cried because I'm five.
Then we made a serious commitment to our place for Rammstein who played at 11. We stood for at least seven hours in front of the green stage. During our wait we watched BoySetsFire, Gogol Bordello, The Hives, and Billy Talent who apparently is immensely popular in Germany since we were the only two people who weren't signing along. All these bands were fantastic and now we have some cds to buy. The Hives were especially fun and also hilarious:
"I'm gonna teach you all a lesson in manners. When a song ends you yell NO because its over and you're sad but clap because it was fucking good."-lead singer
At 11 pm sharp we got the show if a life time. This was the second time I have seen Rammstein and the best. More fire and a new set of songs and no censorship!! Absolutely amazing is all I can say and I catch myself with a smile on my face constantly.
Our legs hated us and we got the worst sunburned but we would do it again in a second. No doubt.
Also I'd like to add that I am addicted to Red Bull since that's all they had to drink along with Beck's.
Oh and we lost the car again but we were only off by two rows! Also in the rain!
Sunday we skipped to recover and there wasn't really anyone we wanted to see. We had definitely received our money's worth in shows.
Monday we had to say tschüss to the Benz and it makes me sad to think about it. Great, great, great car :(
Our trip is almost over and that makes me even more sad...please, don't end!!
